About The Conference
Research Across Borders: Advancing European Leadership and Global Impact
The second EULiST Global Conference, hosted by the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in May 2027, brings together researchers, academics, industry representatives, policymakers and societal stakeholders to advance scientific research and foster high-impact international collaboration.
Building on the foundations of the first EULiST Global Conference in 2025, the 2027 edition places research excellence, technological innovation and societal impact at the centre of its agenda. The conference aims to stimulate interdisciplinary scientific exchange, establish new research partnerships and accelerate the development of innovative solutions to Europe’s most pressing challenges, while contributing to sustainable development at the global level.

Europe's Diversity as a Driver of Research Excellence
Europe’s geographical, climatic, industrial and societal diversity represents a unique source of scientific opportunity. From the Mediterranean to Northern Europe, and from densely populated metropolitan areas to rural communities, different regions face distinct challenges and possess complementary resources, knowledge and technological capabilities.
The EULiST Alliance brings these diverse perspectives together, connecting universities deeply embedded in their regional ecosystems within a shared European research environment. By combining scientific expertise, local experience and complementary research infrastructures, EULiST provides a platform for developing solutions that respond to regional needs while generating knowledge and innovations transferable across Europe and beyond.
The ambition is to transform Europe’s diversity into a collective research strength, accelerating scientific progress and strengthening Europe’s position as a global leader in research and innovation.

Four Research Pathways towards Impact
The scientific programme is structured around four complementary thematic sessions, connecting emerging scientific advances with technological development, industrial applications, sustainable communities and societal resilience.
Session I – Impact of Novel Research on Emerging Technologies
Session II – Responsible Cooperation between Academia, Public Entities and Industry
This session examines how universities, public entities, industry and communities translate research into practical applications and societal benefits. It addresses partnership models, innovation ecosystems, demonstration and market uptake, with particular attention to responsible knowledge valorisation and stakeholder participation. Contributions may examine cooperation supporting industrial decarbonisation, European manufacturing and sustainable entrepreneurship, alongside wider public and community needs.
Session III – Pathway towards Smart Cities and Communities
This session brings together research on the physical, digital and social systems shaping sustainable cities and communities. It connects urban data and digital twins with energy, buildings, mobility and spatial planning, while examining how public institutions and citizens participate in decisions. Contributions should consider local climatic, geographical and socioeconomic conditions and the potential to transfer solutions between contexts. University campuses and municipal partnerships provide opportunities to investigate integrated solutions and evaluate their environmental performance and societal value.
Session IV – Societal Preparedness to Embrace Resilience-Oriented Actions
This session examines how societies can anticipate disruption, reduce vulnerabilities and maintain essential functions under environmental, technological and socioeconomic pressures. It connects research on hazards and critical infrastructure with preparedness, responsible business practices and community action. Contributions may address energy security, supply disruptions and the resilience of interconnected systems, as well as the ability of institutions and communities to respond and recover. Circular economy and sustainability approaches are considered through their contribution to resource security, adaptability and long-term resilience.

Located in the heart of Athens, the historic Patission campus of the National Technical University of Athens is an architectural gem and a valuable legacy for the institution.
The historic Averof Building is one of Athens’ most significant neoclassical landmarks and a distinguished work of architect Lyssandros Kaftantzoglou. It has served educational purposes since the 19th century for NTUA, and still hosts the School of Architecture, as part of the city matrix. Following an extensive restoration and modernization project completed in 2010, the building was preserved as an outstanding example of Greek architectural heritage. In 2012, the restoration project received the “Europa Nostra Award” for its excellence in conservation and renovation.
The Historic Rectorate Building has recently been restored and reintegrated into city life ahead of the university’s 190th anniversary in 2027. It includes the Statues Hall, part of the initial space where the Secretariat of the Rectorate and the Senate operated, now hosting exhibitions and conferences. Its smart lighting showcases the grandeur and the scale of the exhibits, enhancing their plasticity and rendering their texture and depth appropriately. It is accessible and visitable by the Polytechnic community and by citizens wishing to learn the history of the Institution.
